Ticks in the woods

I've never had much of a problem with ticks in Quetico, however I know Angler Ed ( who we haven't heard much from lately ) got Lymes last year. Anyone else had much of a problem in BW or Quetico with ticks? I haven't ever had much luck with sprays or anything to keep them off here in Arkansas so we just do a tick check anytime we have been out in the woods during the summer.

Maybe I'm slow (my wife would say so ), but the Seagull Forum page offers a live chat room.

I had tried to get onto it before but wasn't able to make sense of it as I didn't have the latest version of the Java plug-in downloaded on my computer. It is free to download and only takes a few moments to do. If you are interested in chatting live on the Seagull forum page, go to the "Chat" option on the navigation page (right above the list of Forum options) looks like this:

Click "Chat" if you get a page you can't read, you will need to do what I did which was download the latest version of Java 1.5. You can do it at:

http://www.java.com/en/ and click the "free Java download" button. After it is downloaded, you will be able to get on the chat room and talk live with your fellow Seagull Forum buddies!

Look at the bottom of the Forum page to see who is on the Chat room at any time. It looks like this at the bottom of the page:

Mysterious object

I was on Google Earth today and was poking around in Quetico, looking at some lakes off the east end of Sagnagons, and I came across a strange object that is completely out of place. I can't tell what it is. Maybe someone knows what this could be in this area. It looks very strange and in the view, it looks like the object has been outlined, and you can see a reflection off of it. And no...the reflection is not from the top of my head.

Check it out and see what you think. You can see the coordinates at the bottom of the picture and go there on Google Earth and see for yourself. Strange, very strange.

Northeast Sagnagons route

I am already planning our trip route for next year. I'd like to make it a bit more aggressive than usual.

Can anyone give me information about the cluster of lakes off of the northeast end of Sagnagons? Bichu, Ross, and quite a few other lakes? I'd like to know the fishing possibilities, the route difficulties and the scenery. I don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about that area before and any information would be great. I'm trying to see an area I haven't been to yet and I assume we will probably not see another soul in that area since it's not a "loop" trek. Can't wait to hear from someone.

im going to be in hanson ester and rabbitt lakes this spring looking for some walleye hot spots, any well known spots. this will be my first time in this area . i usally fish quetico by rawn narrows but this year we are staying state side thank you for any help

How to Enter: Just reply to this thread and post your picture as an attachment. Feel free to provide a caption for the photo, but it is not necessary.

Contest Rules:

Only one photo can be submitted by participant each month. If multiple photos are submitted by the same participant, only the first one submitted will be entered (so save them for subsequent months).
Each participant can only win one time per year.
The photo submitted has to be taken by the person submitting it.
By submitting the photo to the contest, the participant allows Seagull Outfitters to use the photo on their website or other publications as marketing material.
The participant must register (for free) on the Seagull website before entering the contest.

Black fly experience

Has anyone experienced the black fly nightmare?

I've heard and read accounts regarding this dreaded pest but so far have been lucky enough not to experience it first hand. Do they actually bite?

My trips to date have all been in late may or late June and from what I've read they seem to be bad in early to mid june?

Last year as well as this year we could have taken our trips in early June but felt it would coincide with the fly hatch so I scheduled them for late june. Now with this late thaw I'm hoping this doesn't push the fly hatch into late June.

Bugs don't bother me and I rarely wear a headnet but I'd hate for my son to be miserable. Last year he wound up wearing two pairs of socks the whole trip to keep the ankle biters at bay. This year I think I'm going to get him a pair of lightweight pants that tie at the ankles, I wore those the whole trip last year and never got a bite on my ankles.

Lead free or not?

While sitting on a freight train yesterday going nowhere fast I was reading my 2008 Ontario fishing regulation booklet that came with my conservation license.

I have one question is Quetico Provincial park considered a "National Park"?

Reason I'm asking is the booklet states "no lead sinkers or jigs are allowed in any National parks or wildlife areas".

I also really couldn't specifically find any info regarding the ban on barbed hooks for the Quetico, however parts of the booklet are like trying to read a legal document.

What about the BEER

So, considering that cans and glass bottles are not allowed in the BWCA, does the booze stay at home. If not, how do you guys go about bringing it along. I like my beer and I like to have a nice cold one after a long day, especially considering I'll be up there for six days. How do you guys do it? Or, perhaps this would be a good opportunity to quit those nasty, unhealthy habits.

Stoves

Hey all,

I'm trying to decide which stove to request from the choices Deb has available. I'm doing the complete outfitting with a base camping trip to Alpine, Redrock, or Ogish with my wife and 4 year old daughter. I'm used to the good old Coleman dual burner propane, but the lightweight choices are intriguing. But I do like to cook everything at once and don't want to worry about the rain and/or a fire ban. So despite the weight and size the dual burner might be the way to go.

What do you guys bring?

The choices are whisperlite, peak 1 or a propane stove.

25hp fishing alternatives to SAG ?

Did a week in Sag last Sept (wind, rain & sleet) with a 25hp towing a canoe. Far as I'm concerned we could do Sag again as we didn't fish/explore a tenth of it. But what are my 25hp alternatives? How would Gunflint be ? Its outside of BWCA so no special permits needed (right?) Are there established campsites. Anything else I should know about Gunflint ? How is the fishing ? Don't see alot of islands on my map. Any other suggestions. How would Basswood or Lac Croix be ? Same questions. Interested in fishing, then camping/exploring. thanks
