Johnse,

After reading that info it might be best to leave things as they are. Now that you've explained it I understand it more and the max file size. Even with increasing the size I would still be required to resize as my SLR takes photos at 3-5+meg. Also the last thing I want to do is increase the operating costs for Deb as this is a great opportunity for us to share ideas, tips and reports that is greatly appreciated.

Hope I didn't come off as complaining, it was more of a way to find out if there was an easier way others were posting pictures that I wasn't aware of.

No worries Dave, I didn't take it that way at all...I appreciate the efforts and ideas to improve things.

I figured you were capturing photos with your dslr at huge sizes...I can increase the max size to 500mb and we'd be okay with that. But I don't think it'd be wise to allow 5mb photos. We currently have a storage size of 200mb for attachments. We can double that for a minimal additional cost, but to add gigs and gigs of storage will get expensive, and don't want to take on that expense...at least yet.

Anyway, enough of that boring talk.

I created a form last night that we'll be able to use for uploading trip reports and photos. It will be a dedicated form to submit attachments directly to us. I should have that set up and integrated into the site this weekend...I'll post a note when it's ready. And this should take care of how to send the info to us for the trip reports. And this form could also be used for any attachments you want to send us as well...not just trip report stuff...but for any files.

Thanks for your input and willingness to improve process. I appreciate the comments.

Johnse

Dan,

Just completed your first trip report from the 2008 season. You can view it here.

http://www.seagulloutfitters.com/trip_reports/saganaga_to_seagull_BWCA_canoe_trip_report.htm

Thanks so much for a great report and being a great inspiration to others contemplating bringing their young children on a trip.

Johnse

Heading up to Seagull Saturday morning for my annual run! Doing a base camp run to Frost Lake this year. I'll have a full report ready when I return  Anyone know what the water levels are like recently? Bring on the fishing!

Have a great and safe trip Tom!

They've been having plenty of rain up that way so maybe the water levels are up from when we were in.

Catch the big one!

Looking forward to the report...

heading up Tuesday, on the water Wed 8/4 through Thursday 8/12.  Either going to base at Little Knife portage or try out Zephyr Lake.  I was also wondering about water levels.  Anxious as a kid at Christmas!

Ok guys, we need some trip reports in here.  This means you Tom!
I'm living vicariously through you all since I can't come up there this year.

By the way Tom, did you see the northern lights while you were up there?  There was a huge solar flair while you were on your trip I believe.

HAHAHA!

I know I have to post a report... been racing to catch up at work ever since I got back. I will get something to Johnse soon so all will know of the adventure. First time I ever tipped a canoe - happened this trip. No solar flairs seen or Northern Lights unfortunately (we looked for then every night!!)

Hey, that might be a good thread to start.  " Have you ever tipped a canoe up in the BW or Q?"

How did you do that?  My dad had never been in a canoe before and he leaned to reach for something next to a bluff in Quetico and rolled us.  He ruined his camera.

Yup! Did it.  Warm water next to shore, luckily I didn't lose or break anything.  Those darn angled rocks are slick.

I could paint a dramatic scenario... I'll just give ya the facts  We were fishing on Frost Lake (thankfully as we didn't have a lot of gear with us). We were drifting into shore on a heavy wind and white caps, sideways between the waves - in retrospect, not the greatest idea. There was a fairly ominous cloud approaching and we had about a 10 minute paddle back to camp, so we decided to pack it up and head back. Neither my paddle partner nor I was paying a great deal of attention to the wind, waves and the exposed broadside portion of our Kevlar canoe as we began packing up to go. I had no more that completed hooking in all my gear when my partner spun around in the front seat to buckle in his fishing pole when a gust came up and the left gunnel of the canoe dipped to the waterline. The perfect storm of a tippy Kevlar canoe, with a broadside wind and a big white-capping wave sent us swimming in deep water. We hung on to our full-of-water canoe and let it float us back into shore for the long, cold paddle back to camp.

That was a first for me. In all the trips I've been on, I was always "proud" of the fact that I had never tipped in a canoe - a first for everything

The only casualty was was partners fishing rig. Down to Davey Jones's locker.

So far so good for us...our tip is still in the future

On a similar note I've forgotten to put the drain plug in on my boat several times. I fished 20+ years out of a small 12foot rowboat and never forgot but on a boat that size with very few other things to remember it wasn't hard to forget.

The first day on the water with my brand new $20K+ boat we're sitting in the middle of the lake enjoying the day. I started to read a checklist on a decal on the side of the boat, no.3 I think was drain plug, my heart sank and I thought we were going to sink so I started the pumps and we headed in. Made it back to the launch to drain but there wasn't all that much water in the bilge. Still forget from time to time, especially when other things are going on or I'm doing to much yaking about fishing with a buddy or my son.

The first time I took my young son out I was preoccupied with him and couldn't figure out why the boat wouldn't come off the trailer even though the bunks were way under water. Forgot to remove the rear tie downs that time  DOH!

Here's another one. It doesn't take much of a current to wrap a canoe around a rock.

What if you have only one canoe? Hike out or hope someone else comes by? What if you lose all your gear down stream?
