What are some of the cool gadgets out there you guys have found?  You know, those little things that have made all the difference.

Check this out:  http://www.oldscoutoutdoorproducts.com/about.html

I always hated carrying the loose paddles and rods.  Won't have to anymore!

Here is the latest addition to my gear for this year.

http://www.frontrangeanglers.com/shop/proddetail.php?prod=fishpondopenrange

This was also the site where I found it advertised the cheapest!

I'm not a fly fisherman, but with the new Quetico "barbless" requirement - it forced me to look at ALL of the tackle I take along and downsize it to the bare necessities. Since I'm only taking a third of the gear, this solution replaces the large tackle box I use to drag along !

This should also be a good solution to having to reach for something in a tackle box in the bottom of the canoe or help with the shore fishing effort.

I have received it and LOVE it! Can't wait to try it in the Quetico!

Another one.  My buddy Kanoes gets credit for this one.

The floating fish gripper.

Need a small lantern without the glass globe hassle?

I just ordered the Colemen F1 Lantern:  http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/detail.asp?product_id=9742AA50C&categoryid=24757

Plus, I also have this tent light.  Very bright and attaches via a magnet to any surface (wall, ceiling) on the tent.

Hey kip,

I got a lantern like that for a burner I have.  It didn't put out as much light as I thought it would, but it was fine.....but here's a funny story about my lantern.

I bought it in a kit with my burner, so I was dying to try it out.  A couple of my buddies and I did an overnight float and camp trip on one of our local streams.  That evening, I beamed as I pulled my lantern out of it's bag and screwed it onto the cannister.  I lit the burner and stood back.  it was just a dull flame.  I let it burn for a few minutes, thinking it would heat up and be brighter, but it wasn't even brite enough to light the rocks it was sitting on.  My smile went to a frown and I turned the thing off.  After it cooled I put it back in its bag and decided I would take the thing back and complain that it didn't work.

Well, and here is the embarrasing part.  You know how some guys do things without reading the instructions first?  I'm one of those guys.  When I was re-packaging the lantern into its box, still frustrated, I noticed a little plastic bag in the bottom of the box.  Yup, you guessed it.  Stupid me thought this was some new type of lantern and didn't realize that it needed the lantern filiment over the burner just like in Coleman lanterns.  The reason the dern thing wouldn't burn bright is because I hadn't put the mantle over the burner, which was still in the bottom of the box.

Kip....be sure to tie the cloth mantle over the burner before you light it and it will work just fine.

Here is a light that doesn't have all the fuel fuss. I bought this for my tent, but when I turned it on, they called in a military strike and diverted all air trafic around our camp site! It REALLY puts out the light! Light weight too. We spent an rainy evening playing cards under out camp fly with this baby. It put out all the light we needed for the four of us to play cards by!

I got my new lantern I described above and it is very nice.  Small, light, quiet and gives off a lot of light.  It came with a nice wire hanger and a stuff sack.

And yes Terry, I remembered to put on the mantle first.

I saw this thing over Deb's bay last year with a fishing pole sticking out the side.

Wart,

These portage pads rock!  Super comfortable and worth every penny.  I have 2 sets of them--one for each canoe.
